An Overview of Ultrasound Cavitation Treatment

Ultrasound Cavitation is a body sculpting treatment used to reduce fat circumference. After puberty, fat cells tend to remain constant in number and change their size and volume according to the amount of fat the body stores. When you gain weight this fat often assumes abnormal proportions in areas such as thighs, hips, stomach, and arms.

Non-invasive Ultrasound Cavitation uses ultrasound waves to break down fat. The ultrasonic energy is delivered through the skin surface and works by breaking down stubborn local fat tissues which are subsequently disposed of through the lymphatic and urinary systems. The ultrasound energy is designed to target fatty tissues beneath the skin only and does not affect the blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues.

Ultrasound Cavitation

Ultrasound Cavitation is a natural phenomenon based on low-frequency ultrasound. The ultrasound field creates the bubbles in the liquid that surround the fat cells, which gradually grow, and implode. The membranes of fat cells do not have the structural capacity to withstand the vibrations.

After disruption and emulsification of the fat cells, the liquid which makes up the fat cells, in the form of triglycerides, is released into the interstitial fluid between the cells. This fluid is then metabolized to glycerol and free fatty acids which is then absorbed by the circulatory system.

Our circulatory system will use some of the contents of the fat cell as an energy source. The insoluble (the substance incapable of being dissolved) is transported to the liver and processed like our body processes fatty acids from food.

Short explanation: Ultrasound cavitation causes an emulsification of the fat cell through the ultrasound which causes friction between the fluid and the fat cells which cause them to implode releasing the triglyceride fluid which is easy to eliminate through the urine and the lymphatic system.

The most obvious benefits of Ultrasound Cavitation are the following:

  • Volume reduction of fat

  • Body shaping and contouring

  • Toning & Smoothing

Ultrasound Cavitation Treatment Duration

In order to determine how many sessions will be needed, you will need to perform a client consultation/assessment. The first treatment will usually show an immediate change. It is recommended one session every 2-5 days. A typical session can last anywhere from 20 to 50 minutes depending on the patient and the area or areas treated. The treatment is painless. A tingling sensation or buzzing in the ear will be felt during the treatment. Some heat sensation may also be felt during treatment but no pain. Any slight reddening of the skin which may sometimes develop during or soon after treatment quickly disappears.

The results can be immediate and gradual over a number of weeks as your body clears the broken down fatty tissues. The results can be long lasting provided you follow a healthy diet and exercise program along with basic maintenance sessions.

However, it is very easy to deposit fat again into the tissues if one overeats, consumes too much alcohol or doesn't exercise.

Ultimately the result may vary depending on the individual's different tissue structure, treatment area, age, metabolism, medications, and changes in hormones. Individual’s results vary greatly depending on all the above factors.
